lori2 The Girls Book Review

Decided to review a book this time. I recently received an international best-seller book called THE GIRLS written by Lori Lansens. This is a tender story about two young girls that are conjoined twins. They live their lives physically as one, but are very much separate individuals. They have unique interests and totally different tastes. This story is one of humour, trials and turmoil. Once I starting reading this novel I was instantly convinced that these two girls were actual people and I was reading an autobiography. I was so sure that I actually googled their names’ Rose and Ruby Darlen. As it turned out this is not a true story and these inspiring twins are just fictional characters of Lori Lansens newest novel. I found this read a really enjoyable one especially since the whole book set locally to where I live. I have visited many places mentioned throughout the pages. Without going into too much detail (incase your want to pick it up yourself) This book it written in an autobiographical manner and takes you though the lives of two neve individuals that have no chose but to be forever joined as one. It is a touching and detailed account of what life is like in a small rural town where everyone thinks you’re a freak. It is written not only with compassion but with brutal honesty and you can almost imagine what it like to be there witnessing their day in and day out lives. I will be passing this one on to co-worker, family and friends for sure.

This is my favourite quote from the book:
I have never looked into my sister’s eyes. I have never bathed alone. I have never stood in the grass at night and raised my arms to a beguiling moon. I have never used an airplane bathroom. Or worn a hat. Or been kissed like that. I’ve never driven a car. Or slept through the night. Never a private talk. Or solo walk. Never climbed a tree. Or faded into a crowd. So many things I’ve never done, But-oh how I’ve been loved. And, if such things were to be, I’d live a thousand lives as me, to be loved so exponentially.

Author Lori Lansens, Born and raised in Chatham, Ontario, Lori Lansens now makes her home in Los Angeles with her husband and two children.
