I collect as many coupons as possible for items I regularly use and items I want to try. I wait for these to go on sale before using. Then I put the amount I save in a vacation bank for my two grand children .Every year I have a few hundred dollars set aside for their vacation in this manner.
February 24th, 2008 at 11:07 pm
I save money by going through the flyers weekly and using coupons on the items I need that are on sale, I also price match the competetor flyers at Wal-Mart and then use coupons to save even more.

To save money I follow a monthly budget,I clip coupons like crazy but most importantly I visit canadianfreestuff.com to find out where the best deals are and to get lots of great coupons!! This site rocks!

I know this sounds redundant but:
Look for coupons and use them, don’t just carry them around in your purse. This week I got/used free cheese, free vegtable steamers and lots of Money off coupons.
Use points cards, recently my camera broke so i waited for a good sale, 40% off and used my Shoppers Points to get a very nice camera for free.
Watch for sales, this week again I struck a very good sale and got a new Managers chair for my home office area for only $29.00. It was originally over $130.00.
And definately be sure to search CFS for deals.

i save money by keeping the money in my husbands pocket!!!the surest way to save money and as everyone can agree go to canadian freebies and get all the samples you can.it is well worth my time to scroll through a few pages to save a few bucks!!!
February 25th, 2008 at 2:01 am
I check the internet for samples of products I want to try, to see if they are worth buying.
Instead of buying books and magazines, I use the library and borrow them. A library card is free, and it keeps the local branch of the library open.
Instead of buying paper for telephone notes, shopping lists, and scrap notes, I use the blank sides of junk mail and bill inserts.
If I feel it is a safe product, I will shop for it at the Dollar Store.

I try to save money by everyday, I take all the change from my pocket/purse and put it into a jar that has a lid and isn’t see through. That way I can save the money but not be able to see it and want to spend it. A whole out of sight out of mind theory, once the container is full I roll it and stash it away in an account.
That way I can still have my daily timmies but still save money.

I save money by printing off free coupons from Save.com, buying high ticket items such as furniture at moving sales, classified ads, and flea markets. I join free clubs with boston pizza, orange julius, and blockbuster to get coupons of deals that are printable. I am a student so I need to be creative with how I spend my money!

I save money by putting the extra in the bank. I know that sounds like a no brainer but hear me out.
Let’s say for example I get a raise at work. if the raise is $1 an hour and I work full time (8hours x 5 days a week) would mean an extra $160 a month (estimate)
well I was living on my old wage just fine so this extra $160 a month goes into a bank account. it’s totally extra money that I was getting by without spending before so there is no skin off my back by not spending it now. now maybe in a year I get another raise of $1 an hour, well not I’m putting away about $320 a month. also I put away christmas bonuses and my gst refund checks. I don’t account for that money when I do my budgeting (partially because I don’t know what the amount will be or when it will come so how do I budget for it?) so that’s a few hundred more that go into the bank.
I use this money for extra things that I cant budget for, like when the car breaks down and have to pay for repairs.

We don’t watch too much television so we don’t get caught by the commercials and we don’t walk in the mall too much so we don’t see lots of “stuff” we want and if we do buy something its usually on sale and any item that comes in the house means another item gets donated or thrown out.
We cook from scratch a lot and don’t eat out too often.
We also shop around when we do buy something including ebay and kijiji.
February 25th, 2008 at 4:37 pm
I make a list, take my flyer, and carefully watch prices on the shelf. If they are wrong I use SCOP(scanning code of practice)so that I get the item(under$10.00)free or $10.00 off if item is more than $10.00. I always but clothing off-season and save it till the appropriate season, and I shop around on big ticket items. I always try to negotiate on big ticket items(such as a free item or a price reduction)

1. I visit the save.ca website once or twice a month for some really great coupons.
2. I fill out the Consumer research survey that comes in the mail as soon as I get it. They send back coupons that are really worth your while. They send you coupons for dollars off not just cents off.
3. I have 2 young children who are growing like weeds. I rarely buy them brand new clothes as they grow out of them right away. So I shop at our local thrift shops and find some fabulous “treasures”.
4. Being a former employee of Extra Foods, I know that Extra Foods and their affiliates are on average 30% cheaper than the bigger grocery chains (Safeway, Save-On Foods). Plus they have their coupon board situated by the front door which I always take a minute to check over before I begin my shopping or I try and do my big shopping on their customer appreciation days which can save me 10%, 12% or 15% on my entire purchase. I use my own bags which also takes more money off of my bill.
5. I sell my unwanted items on ebay. Also during my thrift store adventures I look for name brand articles which I can buy for a few dollars and re-sell on ebay for double or more.
6. My parents and their neighbors save all of their empty recyclables for me and once a month I return them to the bottle depot which averages to between $40 and $60.

I shop at second hand stores to save money. I used to shop a lot as a stress releiver, but got myself into dept. I’m out of trouble now, but still have the urge to splurge, so I set myself a budget of $2-$5 and can buy anything I want, as long as its in that price range. I’ve bought picture frames, books, toys for my child, clothes, christmas decorations and cards all under $5!
February 25th, 2008 at 6:09 pm
I buy things off season and put them away till I need them. Some things can be purchased at up to 80% off. I also surf the internet for printable coupons, in store specials or sales. Canadian free stuff is a great easy way to start saving $$$$.
February 25th, 2008 at 6:49 pm
I go onto Save.ca and choose coupons that are then mailed to me. I make sure that when I got shopping I buy stuff that will last for a couple meals, or make stews, soups or chili and freeze them after we are done supper for the night, so we will be able to have them another night.

I am a university student so saving money is extremely important when you have 4 years of school ahead of you at a cost of about $20,000 a year. I live in a house with 3 other female students and I am sort of the “joke” of the household because I am constantly running around turning off lights, unplugging appliances that aren’t being used, and I take 2 minute showers at the max. I also clip coupons like crazy, even though they joke about me, they are impressed with how much I really do save. Especially when we all go grocery shopping together and my total is always atleast $30.00 less than their bills because I clip coupons and watch flyers for deals! Sites such as Canadianfreestuff.com really help out students, and I am extremely appreciative! Keep up the good work!

I stay-at-home with my kids. Believe it or not this DOES pay, we get grants from the government (tax write-offs) aswell as saving on daycare (I got registered with our local CCRR so I am qualified as a family daycare facility). I also work around my kids and work evenings teaching preschool recreation programs also which I am allowed to bring my own family. I believe it will all be worth it in the long run and it has saved us a lot, smartest thing my husband and I ever decided to do
February 27th, 2008 at 1:35 am
i don’t spend my money. no fast food, i keep my meals basic. i stay above the medias brainwashing of i need this or i need that. and after every pay day i withdraw what i have left from my last pay put it in an envolope and hide it.

I am alwasy looking for ways to save money and Canadian Free Stuff is my first way. I also use in-store coupons and check the “free” sections on buy and sell sites.
Lately, I’ve started keeping track of items in our pantry to be sure that I am not buying doubles or tripples of things. A lot of grocery stores have BOGO sales so that is a good time to stock up on things we use on a regular basis, especially non-perrishable things.
I also shop at discount and thrift stores. I have gotten a lot of clothes and things for my girls that way and I don’t think I have paid more than $3 for any piece of clothing for them in the last two years. (some great finds at thrift stores and sometimes they still have original tags on them).
Finally, I use Freecycle.org You receive or give away things for FREE!!!!! no buying or trading. And it’s international. you sign up for an area and check the postings. We’ve gotten beds for our girls, laminate flooring, kitchen furniture, dishwasher, clothes, etc. And I got rid of a bunch of stuff around the house that we just didn’t use anymore. It’s wonderful.

Hi, The only credit cards I have are for gasoline stations! I am a member of Debtor’s Anonymous and am recovering from being an compulsive spender. More than once, I have put my family in major credit card debt. It came down to spending or my family. I chose my husband and sons. It is taking a lot of work, but I am getting
better every day. Please enter me in your drawing. Thanks,Cindi

I know that everyday I spend a lot of money buying my teas so instaed of buying a tea, I’ve decided to put the money into a piggy bank and see how much I actually spend a month on them. I have also randomly just threw my change or 5 dollars a day to help save up. I’m done this since January and I have over $500. Its nuts how much money one can save by putting it somewhere else and seeing the results

I study all of the flyers that come to the house for the best deals.. I also research online before buying any “big ticket” items for the best deals.. always use coupons.. and visit http://www.CanadianFreeStuff.com several times a day!!!

I save money by cooking all of my meals and bringing a lunch to work everyday. Also this website helps with awesome samples and coupns! You rock!

I drink the free tea provided at work rather than go for daily trips to a coffee shop. I order water at restaurants and choose a non-acoholic beverage if I feel like something other than water. I do not have dessert at the end of a meal at a restaurant since I am normally too full to do it justice. If I really want a fancy dessert, I will go out specifically for dessert and cook my own supper.

I always contact companies via 1-800 # or email. Taking time to do this has really paid off. Companies continue to send me free items and coupons for my comments. Not only that, when I go for groceries I buy bulk special items and save 30-50 bucks each time. I’ve also found that with a couple of hours a week and some research you can make a bundle on ebay. I go and spend an hour finding out whats a big ticket price item and then I buy it from a pawn shop or discount store for barely a fraction of the price. I turn around and sell it on ebay for 50-100% mark up. Last year I bought 8 rare snes games for $45.00 total. On ebay I got from auction for the games almost 490.00. That’s CRAZY!!!

I like to stay healthy so I try to eat naturally and use natural products on my skin. One thing I enjoy doing to help me save money is make my own dehydrated fruit leathers. I use over ripe bananas as the base and add different berries and seeds for variety. One of my favourite combinations is sesame seed & banana. It is so simple. I merely put the over ripe bananas in the blender and whiz them until smooth. Then I pour them out into a bowl. Next I put an equal amount of dark sesame seeds that I have bought in bulk into the blender and blend them until they are a fine powder. I mix the bananas and sesame seeds together and spread the mixture onto plastic and put this into the food dehydrator. In just a day or so I have a healthy and inexpensive snack food that really beats the store bought kind.

Putting pennies and change into a jar is how I started
When my grandmother was alive,I use to do her shopping on my weekend visits, she and I noticed that I always end up with allot of pennies and extra change left over.So she gave me a large jar and I put all my change in there. Then I decided over the years to put this money into the bank.To this day,I still keep my change and wait till the jar gets full.It may be old fashioned but it works.

Wow! Lots of great ideas here! Let me add a few more.
I never use the full cycle on my washing machine which is 15 minutes…. I find that 12 minutes does the same job, don’t forget to use cold water. My dryer works much the same way. 50 minutes almost always does the same as 60 minutes! Every little bit counts. Also, I use liquid fabric softener…. but don’t add it to the wash. Instead, I wet an old facecloth with the softener and toss it into the dryer with the clothing. Does the same job as dryer sheets at a fraction of the cost! A bottle lasts forever!
I use coupons too…. save.ca, etc. I am new to this site, CFS, and looking forward to coupons & freebies…. already printed out some cheese coupons. Shop around, but make sure you don’t drive too much out of your way… I find it is not worth the gas money or my time for a loonie.
We get movies at the library, our church and the Ontario Early Years centre for free. My children love that we can get movies so easily. Pack your own lunches, snacks, drinks for the kids sporting events… the prices charged there are outrageous!
Thanks CFS!
